How Our Specialized USMLE STEP 1 Prep Course Can Help You

USMLE Step 1 exams are becoming more challenging with each passing year and success rates around the country are plummeting. After an in-depth analysis of practice test performances and feedback from students who have previously taken the exam, we at Delphi have improved our teaching methods to be scientifically proven:

Understanding the basic theories through full detail lectures and practice questions that are concept specific, directly after that concept is taught. While learning the concepts, students will have a better understand of what each question is asking, what the answer choices are asking, and what the correct answer is.

At Delphi, we have a proven track record of helping students by moving away from the traditional methods of preparing for USMLE Step 1. Our strategy includes 6-week Step 1 Live Lecture Prep and 6-week Step 1 Online Live Stream Prep, where we teach all the concepts from First Aid in a way that can be easily digested, while still being intellectually stimulating. Followed by UWorld analysis strategies, which are necessary to score optimum results.

Proven Scientific Method to Study USMLE

Studying for Step 1 is getting harder and harder, students are getting lost in their studies, and studying for countless hours and not remembering anything. We have found that students are studying the wrong way and have to take too many prep courses to change their thinking. There is no guidance of how to study for an exam, and this is hurting the scores. Statistics from well-known universities have been studied and here’s what they said;

Albert Einstein College of Medicine 2011:

Albert Einstein College of Medicine completed a study called “Are questions the answer? The effect of popular study resources on USMLE Step 1 Performance” in 2011 showing the statistics between students who studied hard for Step 1, and those who practiced study questions more than reading the information. To summarize, the analysis found that the number of hours studying isn’t what is helping students score better, it’s the amount of questions practiced. The University tested students before they studied using any material, and again after studying about 2,000 practice questions. The scores were significantly better after studying questions.

University of Michigan 2014-2015

A similar study was completed at the University of Michigan called “Study behaviors and USMLE Step 1 Performance; Implications of a Students Self-Directed Parallel Curriculum in 2014-2015. They found similar results to Albert Einstein College of Medicine. An outline of their analysis shows that students who studied and completed with three or more passes with First Aid while adding unique and repeat practice questions were more successful with their test scores.

Washington University of St. Louis 2015

Washington University of St. Louis completed a study in 2015 titled “Student-directed retrieval is a predictor of medical licensing examination performance.” They found the same similar results as the previous universities. They outlined that practice questions are strongly associated with performance on the step 1 exam. Out of the three studies, Washington University found that Anki is significantly correlated to the performance of Step 1. This study also looked at depression and test taking anxiety and showed that both were significant negative predictors of step 1 scores. It is very important to take care of yourself. Make sure to stick to a routine, and most institutions have resources to help students get through the tough times.

After reviewing all three studies, the final conclusion shows that using First Aid USMLE Step 1 while practicing questions is the key to success.

Delphi has put the scientific method to practice. Here, we use First Aid to learn each concept, in full, broken down, detail. After each individual concept, we complete practice questions, right away.

For example;

  • Using  First Aid we will learn Sickle Cell Anemia

  • Before starting a new concept, we will answer questions about  Sickle Cell Anemia using the UWorld bank.

The questions will make sure everyone is understanding how to read the question, what the question is asking, what answer choice is correct, and why that is the right answer.

Students who are practicing questions are seeing a rise in their scores. This is a proven method to study for the USMLE Step 1.
